Happy Birthday…. to me..

Mondays can be, well, Mondays.

Today is my birthday, though, so I am positive this day is going to be great no matter what happens. And I pray nothing bad happens.

I am 53 today.

The last three years I have been figuring out who I am and what I really whant to do.  I’ve relearned how to have joy and have learned to really appreciate what is in front of me; and this year’s birthday goal is to bloom where I am planted. By God’s own hand, I prayerfully ask for him to show me how.

This bush bloomed where it was planted for many years, but eventually the shade disappeared after a storm took out an old-growth pine. Moving it to the front of the house, facing north, has been good for her. I’ve made personal adjustment myself, longing to begin my own blooming season.

God is my rock, the one to whom I cry out to. Sometimes I hear my soul calling to God while my mind is focused on the mess in front of me. When I recognize these moments, I stop and thank Him and ask Him to continue drawing me close to Him and to make me aware always of my soul’s desire for His closeness so that my entire being participates in the worship.

He answers me always through John Chapter 15. Various times and places, verses from John Chapter 15 will gently remind me that as long as I focus on God, He will focus on me. Since I have found this verse and allowed my mind and soul to work together in seeking God, my perspective has changed so much.

Being mindful to ask Him to draw me closer daily, I find that it is easier to align my hopes and dreams on what God wants me to have, rather than seeking the things of the world.

The cuttings are off of an old hydrangea bush that has been around for about 25 years or more. It originally came from a friend’s garden and came with me when we moved into our home almost 17 years ago. It was planted in the wrong place and never really took off.
Last year my husband moved it near the front door out of direct afternoon sun.
Originally I rooted these cuttings in water at my kitchen sink; then they were transplanted to pots on my back porch. I am going to nurse them through the winter in hopes of having even more blooms in the spring.

Sharing My Birthday With Mrs. Gail

I share this date with several, but today, I want to tell you about Mrs. Gail. Mrs. Gail Bolin is in heaven now celebrating her birthday, having left this earthly life on August 9, 2012.

In the incredibly too-short three years that we knew her, she spent time helping us to raise our children in the Catholic faith. She gifted me and my youngest, Cassie, with beautiful veils that she handmade for us for to wear during worship.

She was a lovely person and her spirit reflected God in a manner fitting a true saint. After her death, her son shared the following handwritten words from Mrs. Gail.

“Sometimes we do not get from prayer what we are seeking because we do not focus our attention and our heart on Christ, through whom our prayers reach God. Often a deep and fervent look at Christ is the best prayer: I look at him and he looks at me.”

“Anything that takes you away from God must remain outside of you.”

“If you are humble, nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.”

“Thoughtfullness is the beginning of great sanctity.”

“We are called to withdraw at certain intervals into deeper silence and aloneness with God, to be lone with Him, not with our books, thoughts and memories but completely stripped of everything to dwell lovingly in his presence; silent, empty, expectant.”

Preserving Summer, Preserving Beauty: Summer has always been my favorite time of the year, then fall. Drying hydrangea from our own bush has brought me such joy. I had bouquets all over the house and then as they dried, I created an arrangement for our bedroom. It makes me so happy to see it every day!

Thanks for joining me on my birthday. See you next Monday. Have a fabulous week! ~~ Brenda
